Position Overview Union plant making bricks 50-60 employees. Candidate must have experience managing union employees.
The Plant Manager is a hands-on manufacturing leader reporting to the Vice President, Manufacturing. This individual is self-motivated and committed to continuous process improvement. He or she is analytical, organized, and able to manage multiple projects and competing priorities, while maintaining safe and efficient plant operations. The Plant Manager will lead and partner closely with the General Foreman, Supervisors, Engineering and Quality Assurance teams to drive continuous improvement throughout the production and manufacturing process and increase capacity and operational effectiveness and efficiency.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
? Prepares operational and production schedules and coordinates manufacturing activities with the operations team to ensure production and quality of products meet plans and specifications.
? Directs the activities of the operations team to insure effective plant operations in short and long-term.
? Maintain and optimize metrics relevant to safety, efficiency, quality, costs and other relevant aspects of plant operations.
? Analyzes personnel and capital resources and selects the best method to meet production and distribution goals.
? Ensures safety and environmental practices are maintained and all regulatory requirements are met and exceeded.
? Monitors product cost, scrap and quality standards, establishes and maintains standards.
? Drives programs to continually reduce manufacturing cycle time and maximize inventory turns.
? Leads efforts to expand plant capabilities and extend value chain, as necessary, and reduce lead times to customers.
? Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum cost and prevent operational delays.
? Leads the continuous improvement through lean process improvement initiatives.
? Prepares regular operational reports that detail variances from plan or budget.
? Insures compliance with corporate financial, production reporting and inventory procedures for the plant.
? Reviews operations and financial performance against annual operating targets and helps develop future budgets.
? Maintains communications with Finance, Purchasing, Human Resources, Sales and Marketing, Quality, Safety, and Environmental departments.
? Collaborates with sister plants within company and insures the plant is represented in corporate COE (Center of Excellence) teams.
? Maintains a positive employee and labor relations environment, while properly motivating and correcting workforce.
? Maintains staff by recruiting, selecting, orienting, training and developing employees.
? Prepares performance evaluations of direct reports, providing counseling on methods of improving performance and disciplining employees when necessary, enforcing company systems, policies and procedures.
Requirements ? BS in Engineering or other 4 years degree (MBA a plus)
? Comfortable working in an industrial plant environment; need to be hands-on and frequently active on the shop floor.
? Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies
? Previous experience in a union environment
? 5-10 years progressively responsible management experience in a manufacturing environment; previous experience with refractories and/or ceramics a plus
? Experience with ERP system; company currently uses QAD
? Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
? Excellent Verbal & Written Communications Able to clearly present information and influence or persuade others through oral presentation in positive or negative circumstance.
? Possess financial acumen with strong budgeting KPIs
? Experience utilizing lean processes and concepts as well as lean manufacturing.
