Amsted Rail - Hammond Plant, is a hot wound spring manufacturer with a proud 100 year history. Due to growth we are searching for hard working individuals willing to join the production workforce as laborers. However, the need is for people that want to learn the process and potentially transfer into other positions
A laborer works with steel bar stock that is cut, heated and coiled into springs that weigh between 9 pounds and 900 pounds. Safety is critical. A laborer may be required to manually move bars or springs, so the ability to lift 50 lbs. is required. The plant environment is similar to a steel mill or foundry in that it is cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Personal protective equipment is worn at all times (steel toed metatarsal shoes, hard hat, safety glasses, ear plugs and gloves).
This is a Union facility so employees can request transfers to different jobs. Therefore, other skills can be beneficial and will be considered during selection. (certified welding, mechanical ability, machine operation, forklift, inspection experience, math & measurements)
The starting pay rate is $15.09 per hour with a $3.00 per hour increase after 1920 hours worked.
